History
Chivas Regal launched its first blend in 1909, quickly gaining popularity in the US. Prohibition briefly interrupted its success, but this period allowed Canadian distillers Seagram to become a major player in the Scotch market. Seagram acquired Chivas Brothers in 1949 and expanded its portfolio by adding Strathisla and building three more distilleries. Over time, they also acquired Campbell Distillers and The Glenlivet Distillers, making them one of Scotland’s largest whisky companies. In the early 2000s, Pernod Ricard acquired Chivas Brothers along with Allied Domecq, which brought Ballantine’s into its fold. Today, Chivas produces two of the top three selling blends in the world, and its distillery portfolio, with Glenlivet as its flagship brand, rivals only Diageo’s.
